Those look really fun. My kids love doing crafts for the holidays and these don't look too challenging. Smiley Thanks for the info JA.
17  The Printing Center / Printing FAQ / Re: How Often Are You Printing? on: October 24, 2007, 05:31:14 AM
I print when I need something. It ranges from daily to weekly depending on what I'm working on.

I haven't found what works best for me. My Epson seems to have some clogging on the nozzles if I don't print frequently enough so I ususaly run a nozzle check before I start a print job. My HP hasn't had that problem but I don't use it for all my projects.
18  Magazine Forum / Magazine Chit-Chat / Re: Paper or Hybrid... how can I tell??? on: October 16, 2007, 09:56:36 AM
It really depends on the page. Sometimes I can tell that the embellishments were done digitally and that tips me off to the page being digital. I usually look at shadows. Realistic shadows can be done digitally but a lot of embellishments out there come pre-shadowed and if the page creator doesn't put it all together right then that sticks out.

I've been stumped on occassion though by the really realistic embellishments out there. People that know how to shadow right and how to combine the items all together can pull off a great page visually, that you can't tell is 100% digital.

Hybrid muddles it all the more since when you combine a well-crafted page with the true 3-d of traditional.

I can usually tell text. If it is directly on the picture and there aren't any rub-on's or transparencies involved and the text doesn't look hand-writen, then it is pretty safe to assume it was put on there w/ the computer and then printed out.  Same with swirls/ doodles and brushes used on pictures.

I also look at how the elements / embellishments overlap the picture(s) and paper(s).

I don't think I have an answer for you on "HOW" to tell if it is traditional or digital.

20  The Printing Center / Printing FAQ / Re: what kind of things have you printed on? on: October 03, 2007, 01:09:45 PM
I have printed on a variety of Cardstocks, thin chipboard, canvas, vellum, transparencies, sticker paper, photo paper, art paper, origami paper, ribbons, Tattoo sheets, window cling materials and post-its - to name a few things.

I like to stick things through my printer. I try out all kinds of products in it LOL. My poor printer!

Di, there is a really neat little pouch thingy... I can't remember the name of it - hrm The Scrap Perfect Pouch maybe? That you can rub onto slick surfaces to make printing possible. I've used it before , though it has been a while, and it worked well.

I haven't had the opportunity to try Hawk Mountains Vellum but all the papers I've used from them have printed gorgeously.  I have used the Vellum by World Win Papers and they print wonderfully. You can see some examples of use with them in the Same Products Different Takes article in Issue 3.  It was quick drying and easy to use.  Smiley

Hi Amy! Great idea. I know that there are so many people that have questions about papers and printing.

I've used some of the Hawk Mountain Paper and loved the results... Come to think of it there is a project in the next issue that has some HMP in it Smiley

Thanks for your willingness to help out people with questions.

WE'RE HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, at least I am LOL! Wow. what a great week. CHA was fantastic with SOOOOOO many new and wonderful products... I'm going to have to wait to post my gushy thoughts about the new products I am in LOVE with!

MY newest, favorite toy is the XShot (xshotpix.com) because it allowed us to video record and take photographs in a group setting without trying to find someone else to do it for us. This is the COOLEST product !!!!!!!!! If you haven't checked it out , you should. EVERYONE needs one of these ! I use mine so much and now just leave it in my purse (yes it is that small!)

So, back to CHA, I will say that I think the industry has come to the point where Digital Products are recognized as important and necessary. It's very exciting. There are so many user friendly products out there.

As for us girlies - I think we all had a blast. It was so fun to hang out and to go see the show floor together. There has been a lot of positive response and interest in both the magazine and the calendar. We are so excited and can't wait for everyone to come in and comment.

I promise to get back, hopefully by weeks end to tell you guys my favorites from CHA!
