These layouts are beautiful!

I'm not sure. I noticed the same thing when I tried PSE 5.0 - that it seemed slower than 4.0. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that you have both programs taxing your computer resources? Maybe if there was only one of the programs on your computer and not both it would work at normal speed? 

It would be a great question to ask at the adobe.com PSE forums.

You can try PSE 5.0 at adobe.com as a free trial. I did so after I had PSE 4.0 for a while. I personally liked PSE 4.0 and the new features weren't enough for me to upgrade. I read some people had a few glitches with 5.0 - not sure if they are resolved or not.

There certainly is - which version do you have? You'll want to get the one that corresponds to your version.

It's always fun to learn something new - especially with Photoshop Elements so I can imagine if you get the hang of it - you'll be fabulous with PS as well.
